What is a Coding Assessment?

Coding assessments evaluates problem-solving and coding proficiency using browser-based editors with real-time execution, autoscoring, and proctoring for integrity. Formats include solo timed challenges or collaborative pair sessions, featuring syntax highlighting, test case runners, and plagiarism checks.
  • Code-Solo: A tool designed to evaluate candidates’ coding skills in a real-world development setting by providing auto-scored tasks and test cases. It serves as a valuable resource for screening candidates in the initial stages of the hiring process.
  • Code-Pair: Offers collaborative live coding interviews with integrated audio and video calling capabilities. It provides a platform to evaluate coding skills in real-time during live interviews.

Prerequisites

Before starting the assessment, ensure that you have:
  • stable internet connection.
  • A computer or laptop with a webcam and microphone.
  • Access to the assessment link provided by the recruiter.
  • compatible web browser (Chrome or Edge is recommended).

Steps to Take a Coding Assessment

  • You will receive an invitation email with an assessment link to access the coding assessment.
  • View your assessment details and click on “Start Assessment”, which will redirect you to the Talview candidate portal.
  • Enter the exact same email address to which the invite was sent to you, to receive your one-time confirmation code (OTP).
  • Click Request OTP to receive your unique confirmation code in your inbox.
  • Enter the 8-digit confirmation code, sent to your email to continue your assessment.

2. Grant Permissions

NOTE: If you are asked to give consent or capture photo then proceed with these steps.
  • Agree to our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy to keep your experience secure.
  • Consent to face capture and session recording, ensuring assessment integrity.
  • Click Continue to proceed after accepting required policies.

3. Face Capture

  • Position your face and hold steady to Capture your photo for a secure face verification.

S4. Start the Assessment

  • Read the Assessment instructions carefully and click Proceed.
  • Read the question carefully and answer, select your programming language (e.g., Python, Java) and review the problem statement, inputs, outputs, and constraints.
  • Then click on Run to test outputs - Green for pass, red for fail and debug errors iteratively.

5. Assessment Submission and Feedback

  • Once all tests pass, click on Submit; confirm to finalize your assessment.
  • Provide feedback by rating your assessment experience and click on Submit.

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure your device is fully charged or plugged in to avoid interruptions during the test.
  • Close all unnecessary applications and browser tabs to optimize your system’s performance and prevent distractions.
  • Use headphones if in a noisy environment to stay focused and avoid background noise being picked up by the microphone.
  • Avoid switching tabs or windows during the assessment to prevent proctoring flags and potential disqualification.
  • Read each problem statement carefully before coding and plan your approach to manage time effectively.
