This can cause issues like:
  • The camera is not turning on
  • Poor audio quality
  • System checks failures before your Talview test or interview
This guide helps you choose the right camera and mic before you begin.

✅ Step 1: Check Device Names

Before selecting a device, it’s helpful to know what each one is called. Here’s how:

On Windows:

  1. Press Windows + S and type Sound Settings → open it
  2. Under Input, you’ll see a list of microphones
  3. Under Output, you’ll see a list of speakers or headsets
  4. For camera info:
    • Press Windows + S, type Device Manager → open it
    • Expand Cameras to view all connected options

On Mac:

  1. Go to System SettingsSound
  2. Check the input and output device names
  3. For cameras, open System ReportUSB to view connected cameras

🎯 Step 2: Set the Default Camera and Microphone in Your Browser

The experience works best on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Mozilla Firefox. If you have more than one camera or microphone connected, your browser might use the wrong one. Follow the steps below to select the correct devices.

✅ In Google Chrome:

  1. Open the assessment or interview link in Chrome
  2. Click the 🔒 lock icon next to the website address
  3. Click Site settings
  4. Find Camera and Microphone
  5. Use the dropdowns to select your preferred devices (e.g., “Integrated Camera” or your headset mic)
  6. Refresh the page after making changes

✅ In Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open the assessment or interview link in Edge
  2. Click the 🔒 lock icon near the address bar
  3. Choose Permissions for this site
  4. Scroll to Camera and Microphone
  5. Choose the correct devices from the dropdowns
  6. Reload the page to apply the changes

✅ In Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Open the assessment or interview link in Firefox
  2. Click the 🔒 lock icon in the address bar
  3. Click Connection secure > More information → then click Permissions
  4. Scroll down to Use the Camera and Use the Microphone
  5. Uncheck Use default, then select the right device from the dropdown when prompted
  6. Refresh the page after setting the permissions
Firefox may also prompt you when the page loads — use the popup to choose the correct mic and camera.

🎥 Step 3: During the System Check

When the platform does the system check:
  • If prompted, allow access to the camera and microphone
  • If it asks you to choose a device, select the correct one from the dropdown menu
  • Make sure you see yourself on video and hear your voice clearly
