Session playback lets coordinators watch a recording of a candidate’s exam session after it has been completed. The recording shows multiple streams simultaneously, giving you a comprehensive view of the session. In this article, you will learn how to access session playback for a candidate in the Coordinator Console. Before You Begin Make sure you have:
  • Coordinator role access on your Talview account.
  • At least one candidate with a Completed status in the assessment tab.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open the exam from the Exams list From the Coordinator Console, navigate to the Exams section using the left sidebar. Click on the exam you want to review. 2. Go to the assessment step tab Inside the exam, click the tab for the assessment step you want to review. The tab shows the total candidate count in brackets. 3. Click on a completed candidate’s row In the candidate list, find a candidate with a Completed status and click on their row. A session details panel opens on the right side of the screen. 4. Open the Session Summary Report In the session details panel, click the Session Summary Report icon. The full Session Summary Report page opens. 5. Click the Session Playback button At the top of the Session Summary Report, click the Session Playback button. The playback view opens.

What you’ll see in the playback view

The playback view shows the candidate’s session across four streams simultaneously:
  • Primary — the main camera feed showing the candidate
  • Secondary — the feed from the secondary device camera
  • Screenshare — the candidate’s screen during the exam
  • Activity — a view of the candidate’s activity feed captured on their screen & mouse movements
At the bottom of the screen, a playback timeline shows the session progress and total duration. Use the standard playback controls at the bottom to play, pause, rewind, or fast-forward through the session. On the right side, the Incidents panel shows all incidents flagged during the session, with their severity level and timestamps. Click on an incident to jump to that point in the session. The left sidebar of the playback view also gives you quick access to additional session context, including exam and candidate details, candidate submissions from their onboarding, device details, and exam rules. To return to the Session Summary Report, click ← Back to Report at the top left of the playback view.

What coordinators can and cannot do in the playback view

In the coordinator role, the playback view is read-only. You can:
  • Watch the session across all four streams
  • Navigate the playback timeline
  • Review the incident list and their timestamps
  • View the chat history
The following actions are not available to coordinators and are disabled in the view:
  • Dismissing individual incidents
  • Adding manual events
  • Resetting the session
  • Assigning a proctor
  • Accessing captions and audio waveform controls

Additional Tips
  • Session playback is only available for candidates with a Completed status. If a candidate’s session was interrupted or is still in progress, the playback may not be available yet.
  • To return to the Session Summary Report at any point, click ← Back to Report at the top left of the playback view.
