If your ID type isn’t being accepted during verification, this is almost always because the document you submitted doesn’t fall under the accepted category for your assessment. Talview verification requires a valid, government-issued photo ID, and does not currently accept alternative documents such as student IDs, employee IDs, or residency cards, even if those documents include a photo. This guide explains what counts as a government-issued photo ID, what each accepted form looks like, and what to check before you submit.

All accepted IDs fall under a single category: Government issued Photo ID. Depending on your country, this can take one of the following three forms. You only need to submit one of these three, not all of them. If your country doesn’t issue national ID cards, a driving license or passport will work instead.

Before submitting your ID for verification, confirm the following:
  • The document is currently valid and not expired
  • It clearly displays your full name
  • It clearly displays your photo
  • The document is one of the three types listed above (national IDs, drivers license, or passport)
If your ID meets all of these criteria and is still not being accepted, the issue may be with image quality (such as glare, blur, or a cropped edge) rather than the document type itself.
Additional tips
  • If you’re unsure whether your document qualifies, check your exam invitation or instructions, as some exam sponsors may have narrower requirements within this list
  • Make sure you’re photographing or scanning the original physical document, not a photocopy or a digital image on another screen
  • Keep the entire document visible in the frame, including all four corners
