# Why should I disable typing assistance on my device?

Typing assistance features such as autocorrect and predictive text can change or suggest words as you type. Secure Browser checks for these settings before your exam on Talview, and if they’re turned on, you may not be able to proceed. In this article, you will turn off these features on your Mac or Windows device so that your answers are entirely your own.

#### **Before You Begin**

Make sure you have:

* Closed Secure Browser, so the changes apply when you relaunch it.

#### **Step-by-Step Guide**

**On Mac**

1. Click the Apple menu and select **System Settings**.
2. Click **Keyboard** in the sidebar.
3. Under **Text Input**, click **Edit** next to **Input Sources**.
4. Turn off the following:
   * **Correct spelling automatically**
   * **Capitalize words automatically**
   * **Show inline predictive text**
5. Click **Done**.
6. Relaunch **Secure Browser**.

**On Windows**

1. Click **Start** and open **Settings**.
2. Click **Time & language** in the sidebar, then click **Typing**.
3. Turn off the following:
   * **Autocorrect misspelled words**
   * **Highlight misspelled words**
   * **Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard**
   * **Multilingual text suggestions**
4. Relaunch **Secure Browser**.

> * On Mac, you can also find these settings by typing **spell** in the System Settings search bar and selecting **Spelling and prediction**.
> * If Secure Browser shows a message that automatic spelling correction is enabled, click **OK**, turn off the settings above, and relaunch Secure Browser.
> * **Show inline predictive text** is available on macOS Sonoma and later. If you don’t see it, your Mac doesn’t have this feature.
> * You can turn these features back on after your exam.
