# System Requirements

What a test-taker's machine needs in order to run a Proview session. Use this during onboarding and whenever validating device compatibility ahead of an assessment.

For what your organization's network and firewall must allow, see [Network Requirements](/sdk/network-requirements).

## Hardware Requirements

> The following specifications apply to proctoring — adhering to the recommended specs significantly improves stability, performance, and monitoring accuracy.

| Component          | Minimum Requirement                                                | Recommended Specification                                            |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **RAM** | 4 GB (at least 2 GB free before launch) | 8 GB (at least 4 GB free) |
| **Graphics**       | 512MB internal / 1GB external graphics memory                      | 1GB internal / 1.5GB external graphics memory                        |
| **Multimedia**     | Sound card, microphone (inbuilt/external), webcam (15fps, 320×240) | Full HD webcam, mic                                                  |
| **Processor** | 4 physical CPU cores (or equivalent), base clock ≥ 1.1 GHz | 6 CPU cores or higher, sustained performance equivalent to ≥ 2.5 GHz |
| **CPU Idle Usage** | Below 30% before test launch | Below 15% for smooth proctoring |
| **Disk Space**     | 10 GB free or 10% of total capacity                                | 20 GB free                                                           |
| **Power Backup** | Recommended for uninterrupted tests | UPS for extended Proctoring sessions |

<Tip>
  * **Secondary camera (if enabled).** The mobile device streams alongside the primary machine and must stay active for the entire test. Keep it fully charged and on a stable surface to avoid disconnections or jitter.
  * **Before the test.** Disable VPNs and close bandwidth-heavy background apps — cloud sync, streaming, large downloads.
</Tip>

## Software Requirements

> Talview's application runs in modern web browsers or via the Secure Browser (SB). SB is compatible with both Windows and macOS. See [Secure Browser](/sdk/proctoring/secure-browser) for installation, permissions, and update details.

| Component             | Requirement                                                                                                                                                                             |
| --------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Operating Systems** | Windows 11 · macOS 14 (Sonoma) and above · Linux (browser-based delivery only, SB not supported) · Google Chrome OS (latest to latest-3, browser-based delivery only, SB not supported) |
| **Browsers** | Chrome (latest to latest-3) · Edge (latest-3) · Firefox (latest-3, not currently supported for proctored sessions) · Secure Browser (latest) |
| **Permissions** | Admin rights required to install or update Secure Browser. Mandatory permission grants for **Camera**, **Microphone**, and **Screen Sharing** at the system level. |
| **Updates** | If SB is used, it auto-updates before test launch. Systems must allow update installation. |

<Warning>
  Secure Browser (SB) installation and auto-updates **may be blocked** by enterprise endpoint protection, antivirus software, or restrictive admin policies on corporate/school-managed devices.

  * Ensure the user has **administrator privileges** on the machine.
  * Coordinate with internal IT to allow SB installation, update execution, and the domain access listed in [Domain Whitelisting](/sdk/network-requirements#domain-whitelisting).
  * Test on a sample managed device **at least 3–5 days before** the scheduled test to avoid last-minute disruptions.
