# Why are evaluators not auto-assigned to the assessment?

Talview allows recruiters to configure **automation rules** at the assessment step to automatically assign evaluators when candidates are added to the step.

If evaluators are not auto-assigned, it is usually due to rule configuration, trigger conditions not being met, or rule activation issues.

## 🔎 Troubleshooting Common Issues

| **What might be wrong** | **How to fix it** |
| :------------------------------------------------- | :--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Automation rule is not activated | Open the assessment step → Automation side panel → ensure the rule is visible in the current automations section in the side panel |
| Rule created for the wrong assessment step | Confirm the automation is configured for the **correct assessment step** in the workflow. Automations are step-specific. |
| Incorrect trigger selected | Ensure the trigger is set to **Assessment invite sent**. Other triggers will not auto-assign evaluators on candidate tagging. |
| Candidate assessment invite not sent | Auto-assignment works only when the **assessment invite is sent**. Send the invite to trigger the rule. |
| Rule created after candidates were added | Automation rules apply **only to future actions**. Re-add the candidate to the assessment step or resend the invite. |
| User does not have permission to assign evaluators | Ensure the logged-in user has recruiter-level permissions to configure and apply evaluator assignments. |

  ### Additional Tips

  * **Check Current Automations**

    Open the automation side panel and verify the rule appears under **Current Automations** for the assessment step.
  * **Test with a new candidate**

    Add a new candidate to the assessment step and send the assessment invite to confirm the rule is working as expected.
  * **Avoid conflicting rules**

    Ensure there are no multiple automation rules that may override or conflict with evaluator assignment behavior.
  * **Refresh after activation**

    Refresh the page after activating the rule to ensure it is fully applied.
