# Understanding Candidate Assessment Statuses

Within the **Assessment step** of any workflow in Workflow Tools, each candidate is tagged with a real-time status that reflects their current progress in the assessment lifecycle. These statuses help recruiters track engagement, monitor completions, and take necessary actions like evaluation, shortlisting, or reinvites.

## ✅ Status Types and Their Meanings

* **Invited**

  The candidate has received the assessment invitation but hasn’t started the test yet.
* **In Progress**

  The candidate has opened and begun attempting the assessment, but has not submitted it yet.
* **Yet to Evaluate**

  The candidate has completed and submitted the assessment, but it hasn’t been evaluated by a recruiter or evaluator.
* **Selected**

  The candidate has been shortlisted for the next stage. This can happen:

  * **Automatically**, if an auto-shortlisting rule or score threshold is configured.
  * **Manually**, by the recruiter after reviewing the assessment results.
* **Turned Down**

  The candidate has been rejected. This can occur:

  * **Automatically**, based on a predefined threshold or scoring rule.
  * **Manually**, after the recruiter evaluation.
* **Hold**

  The candidate has been kept on hold. This can occur:

  * **Manually**, after the recruiter evaluation.

## 🌐 Usage

These statuses are visible in the candidate list under the relevant assessment step tab in the workflow. Recruiters can filter, sort, or act upon candidates (e.g., send reminders, reinvite, or evaluate) based on these statuses.
