# How to interpret AI-generated interview summaries

Once an interview is completed, Talview automatically generates an AI-powered summary that captures the key takeaways from the session. This summary gives evaluators and recruiters a quick understanding of how the candidate performed without needing to watch the full recording.

In this article, you will learn how to read and make sense of the AI-generated Interview Summary within the Interview Insights page.

### Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

* Logged in to Workflow Tools with your evaluator credentials.
* Open the **Interview Summary** page for a candidate with a completed interview.

**1. Open the Overview tab**

On the Interview Summary page, the right panel defaults to the **Overview** tab. This is where all the AI-generated insights are displayed.

* The **Overview** tab provides the Interview Summary, including key discussion points, strengths, areas of improvement, and recommended next steps.

**2. Read the Interview Summary section**

The first section under the candidate's name and resume link is the **Interview Summary**. Click the section header to expand or collapse it.

* This is a concise, AI-generated paragraph that captures the overall flow of the interview - what the candidate demonstrated, where they struggled, and how the session concluded.
* Use this as a high-level snapshot before diving into the detailed breakdowns below.

**3. Go through the Key Discussion Points**

The **Key Discussion Points** section provides a topic-by-topic breakdown of what was discussed during the interview.

* Each point begins with a **topic label** (e.g., Event loop, Hoisting, Callback hell and solutions) followed by a brief description of how the candidate responded.
* This section is particularly useful for understanding the breadth of topics covered and how the candidate handled each one individually.

**4. Review the Strengths**

Scroll down to the **Strengths** section. This lists specific areas where the candidate performed well during the interview.

* Each strength is presented as a bullet point, referencing concrete examples from the conversation (e.g., correctly explaining a technical concept or proposing a valid approach to a problem).
* These help you quickly identify what the candidate brings to the table.

**5. Review the Areas of Improvement**

The **Areas of Improvement** section highlights where the candidate fell short or showed uncertainty.

* Like the Strengths section, each area is presented as a bullet point with specific examples from the interview (e.g., giving an incorrect definition, needing guidance to complete a task).
* These help you weigh the candidate's areas of improvement against their strengths when forming your evaluation.

**6. Check the Recommended Next Steps**

The final section under the Interview Summary is **Recommended Next Steps**. This provides AI-generated suggestions for what the hiring team should consider doing next.

* Recommendations might include re-running a specific exercise, asking the candidate to submit additional work, or clarifying experience claims in a follow-up conversation.
* Treat these as guidance to inform your decision, not as final directives.

  **Additional Tips**

  * All sections under the Overview tab are collapsible. Click the arrow icon (∧ or ∨) on any section header to expand or collapse it, making it easier to focus on the areas most relevant to your evaluation.
  * The AI-generated summary is based on the full interview session. For additional context on any specific point, you can play back the interview recording in the left panel.
  * To access the candidate's resume while reviewing the summary, click the **Resume** link below the candidate's name, or use the **Resume Preview** icon in the top-right action bar.
