# Why is the estimated duration showing as "undefined" in assessment emails?

If you or your candidates are seeing "undefined" where the estimated duration should appear in an assessment invite or reminder email, this is usually because the section time hasn't been set for that assessment in Talview. In this article, you will resolve the issue and ensure candidates see the correct duration in their emails.

| Section time has not been set for the assessment                        | Open the Assessment Engine, navigate to the relevant assessment, go to the section settings, set the **Section Time** value, and save. Resend the invite - the updated email will include the estimated duration. |
| Estimated duration is not visible at all (no "undefined", just missing) | This is expected behaviour. When no section time is set, the duration field is hidden rather than showing "undefined." To make it appear, set the section time as described above.                                |
| Section time is intentionally not set (open-ended assessment)           | No action needed. The duration field will not appear in the email, and this is expected.                                                                                                                          |

<Tip>
  **Additional Tips**

  * After setting the section time, send a test invite to yourself to confirm the estimated duration appears correctly and is readable (for example, 30 mins or 1 hr 15 mins).
  * Emails that have already been sent will not be updated. Only new invites sent after the change will reflect the duration.
  * If the duration field is missing and no section time is needed for the assessment, no fix is required - this is working as intended.
