# How to use the session playback controls in the video player

Sessions can range from a few minutes to several hours. The playback controls at the bottom of the video player gives you the flexibility to move through a recording at your own pace, skipping ahead through uneventful sections, slowing down to examine a specific moment, or adjusting audio and captions to suit your review environment.

</div>

1. **Play and pause**
   * Click the **Play** button to start the recording. Click it again at any point to pause.
2. **Rewind and fast forward**
   * Click the **Rewind** button to jump back 5 seconds, or the **Fast Forward** button to skip ahead 5 seconds. Click either button multiple times to move further in that direction.
3. **Mute and unmute**
   * Click the **Mute** button to turn off audio. Click it again to restore sound.
4. **Playback speed**
   * Click the **Playback speed** button on the toolbar — the default is **1x**. Select the speed that fits your review:

| Speed | When to use it |
| :------------------ | :--------------------------------------------------- |
| **Less than 1x** | Slow down to examine a specific moment in detail |
| **1x** | Review at normal speed |
| **Greater than 1x** | Move quickly through uneventful parts of the session |

* The recording adjusts to the selected speed immediately. You can change it at any point without pausing.

1. **Captions**
   * Click the **CC** button to enable captions. This is useful when you want to follow what a candidate is saying without relying solely on audio, for example when reviewing in a noisy environment or when audio quality is unclear.
   * A transcription of the candidate's speech appears on the player, synchronized with the audio.
   * Click **CC** again to turn captions off.

  **Additional Tips**

  * You can switch between the **Primary**, **Secondary**, and **Screenshare** feeds at any point during playback by clicking the stream you want to bring into focus.
  * Use **Rewind** and **Fast Forward** to zero in on a specific moment without dragging the seek bar.
  * Muting is useful when reviewing in a shared or noisy environment where audio may be distracting.
  * You can toggle captions and mute on or off at any point without pausing the recording.
