# Understanding the Candidate progress

The **Progress** column in the **Candidate Management** view shows the real-time state of a candidate’s exam activity. It helps proctors understand whether a candidate is actively taking the exam, facing connectivity issues, or temporarily away.

### Progress states

Below are the key progress states you may encounter:

**Online**

* The candidate is **actively connected and taking the exam**.
* No action is required.

**Reconnecting**

* The candidate has temporarily **lost connection and is attempting to reconnect**.
* This may be due to network instability.
* Monitor the candidate to ensure they reconnect successfully.

**Candidate Break**

* The candidate is on an **approved break** during the exam.
* The exam is paused for the candidate during this period.

**Proctor Break**

* The exam is paused due to a **proctor-initiated break**.
* This may be used in special situations requiring intervention or review.

**Disconnected**

* The candidate is **completely disconnected** from the session.
* Immediate attention may be required to determine the cause and next steps.

**Suspended**

* The candidate’s exam has been **suspended due to a violation or issue**.
* This typically requires **administrator review** before any further action.

The Progress column helps you:

* Monitor whether candidates are **actively taking the exam**
* Identify candidates facing **technical issues**
* Track candidates who are **on break or paused**
* Take quick action in case of **disconnection or suspension**

  * Keep an eye on candidates marked as **Reconnecting** or **Disconnected**.
