# How to assign room and seats to a slot

Once a planning slot has been created, you can assign rooms to it from the Seat Allocation view. When a room is assigned, its seats automatically become available for candidate allocation within that slot. In this article, you will learn how to assign rooms and seats to a scheduled slot in Center dashboard.

***

### Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

* Logged in with the appropriate role credentials (Center Admin, Center Manager, Proctor Lead, or Proctor)" to reflect that other roles can also perform candidate actions.
* Opened a center and navigated to the **Capacity** tab.
* At least one planning slot created and rooms configured in the center.

***

### Step-by-Step Guide

**1. Open the Seat Allocation view**

From the **Capacity** tab, click on the **time link** of the slot you want to assign rooms to. This opens the Seat Allocation view.

**2. Click + Add room**

Click the **+ Add room** button at the top right. The **Add rooms to \[slot time]** modal opens, displaying available rooms from your center plan.

**3. Select rooms to add**

The modal shows rooms that are available for this time slot. Select the rooms you want to assign. If no rooms are available, the modal displays "No additional rooms available to add." This means all rooms in your center are already assigned to this slot or configured for a different workflow step.

**4. Confirm the selection**

Click the **Add rooms** button to assign the selected rooms. The button dynamically updates to show the count of rooms you've selected. Click **Cancel** to go back without adding.

**5. Verify the assignment**

After adding, the Seat Allocation view updates to show the room's seats listed individually. Each seat row displays the seat name, candidate assignment (if any), status (**Available** or **Occupied**), and proctor assignment. The seats are grouped under a label showing the room name and session date.

  **Additional Tips**

  * The total slot capacity is automatically calculated based on the combined seat count of all assigned rooms.
  * Only rooms that match the slot's workflow step are available for selection. For example, a Speaking Session slot will only show rooms configured for the Speaking workflow step.
  * After assigning rooms, you can assign proctors to individual seats from the Seat Allocation view.
  * To remove a seat from a slot, use the **delete (trash) icon** on the seat row.
  * You need to create a planning slot before you can assign rooms to it. See the article on how to create a planning slot for details.
