# Why won’t Secure Browser launch on an outdated OS?

Secure Browser is designed to enforce strict security and proctoring controls during assessments. If your operating system (OS) is outdated, the Secure Browser may fail to launch or function correctly. This is because older OS versions often lack the security frameworks, permissions model, and hardware compatibility required for a secure testing environment.

## ✅ Common Causes and Fixes

| **Cause** | **What You Can Do** |
| :--------------------------------------- | :------------------------------------------------------------ |
| OS version is no longer supported | Update your system to a supported OS version |
| Missing security or system features | Install the latest OS updates to enable required capabilities |
| Compatibility issues with Secure Browser | Restart after updating and relaunch Secure Browser |

## ✅ Supported OS Versions

Ensure your device is running **one of the latest three official OS versions**:

* **Windows:** Windows 11
* **macOS:** Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura

Devices running older versions may fail system checks or block Secure Browser entirely

## ✅ What to do next?

* Go to `System Settings > Software Update`
* Install all pending **OS updates**
* Restart your system and try launching **Secure Browser** again.

<Warning>
