# Why should I switch to a stable network before my session?

If your internet connection is unstable, you may experience video lag, audio dropouts, or session interruptions. This checklist helps you identify unreliable network conditions and switch to a more stable connection before your test or interview begins.

## ✅ Common Causes and Fixes

| **What Might Be Wrong** | **What You Can Do** |
| ------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Using public Wi-Fi or mobile data | Switch to a private, stable home or office broadband connection. Avoid mobile hotspots. |
| Network has inconsistent speed | Restart your router/modem or connect to a stronger network. Use LAN if possible. |
| Others are using bandwidth heavily | Ask others to pause streaming, gaming, or large downloads during your session. |
| You're on a metered or capped network | Move to an uncapped network to avoid throttling or cutoffs mid-session. |
| Using school or office network with restrictions | Contact IT to whitelist Talview domains and ensure open access. |
| Weak signal due to distance | Move closer to your router or use a wired connection for improved reliability. |

<Tip>
  **Additional tips:**

  * Avoid VPNs or proxy networks during your session.
  * Close unused browser tabs and background applications.
  * Restart your system after switching networks to ensure changes apply.
  * Always switch networks at least 15–30 minutes before your session starts.

## 🌐 Final Check: Test Your Network

[Run a Speed Test](https://speed.talview.com/) before your test or interview, ensure you're on a **stable and fast connection**.

Make sure:

* **Download speed > 5 Mbps**
* **Upload speed > 2 Mbps**
* **Latency \< 100ms**
* **No packet loss or jitter**

> **Note**: Switch networks if your results fall below the recommended thresholds.
