# Why is a strong wi-fi signal required for live sessions?

A strong and stable Wi-Fi signal is essential for live intreviews and assessments on the Talview platform. Weak Wi-Fi can lead to buffering, audio delays, frozen video, or unexpected disconnections, which may interrupt your session or affect monitoring and evaluation.

In this article, you’ll learn why Wi-Fi strength matters, how weak signals impact live sessions, and what you can do to improve your connection before joining.

## ✅ Common Causes and Fixes

| **What Might Be Wrong** | **What You Can Do** |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| You're far from the router | Move closer to your router or into the same room. Walls and floors can weaken the signal. |
| Router is obstructed or buried | Place the router in an open, central location—avoid cabinets or corners. |
| Too many devices connected | Disconnect unused devices or ask others to pause streaming/gaming temporarily. |
| Using the 2.4 GHz band only | Switch to the 5 GHz band for faster, more stable connections (if your router supports it). |
| Router or device is outdated | Restart your router. If the issue persists, consider a hardware upgrade. |
| Interference from appliances | Move away from microwaves, cordless phones, and Bluetooth devices which may interfere with Wi-Fi. |

### ⚠️ How Weak Wi-Fi Affects Live Sessions

You may experience Wi-Fi-related issues if:

* Video freezes or appears blurry
* Audio cuts out or becomes distorted
* System checks show fluctuating connectivity status
* Your session disconnects or reconnects unexpectedly

These issues can disrupt live interviews, trigger proctoring alerts, or cause session interruptions.

### 🌐 Final Check: Test Your Wi-Fi Strength

Before starting your session, make sure your signal is strong and stable.

👉 [Run a Wi-Fi Signal Strength Test](https://speed.talview.com/)

Look for:

* **Signal Strength: Excellent or Good**
* **Download Speed > 5 Mbps**
* **Upload Speed > 2 Mbps**
* **Ping \< 100ms**

If you're on mobile or a laptop, walk around and test in different areas of your home to find the strongest spot.
