# How to select a preferred language during exam onboarding

In this article, you will learn how to select a preferred language during exam onboarding. Onboarding can be completed in any of the supported languages, with English set as the default. Selecting a language before you begin helps ensure that all instructions are clear before you proceed with your exam.

#### Step-by-step guide

1. On the onboarding screen, select the **Language** icon located in the top-right corner.
2. Select the required language from the dropdown list. Scroll down to view all available languages.
3. Once a language is selected, all on-screen content, including instructions, buttons, and links, is displayed in that language.
4. To request assistance during onboarding, select **Need help?** in the bottom-left corner of the screen. The **Need Help Chat Panel** opens on the right side of the screen.
5. Enter your query in the **Need Help Chat Panel**. Proctor messages are displayed in the selected language.

<Tip>
  **Additional tips**

  * English is the default language for onboarding.
  * You can change your preferred language during exam onboarding by selecting the **Language** icon again and choosing a different language from the list.
  * If the required language is not available, proceed in English or contact your exam administrator.
