# How to disable the Gemini shortcut in Google Chrome?

Google Chrome's built-in Gemini AI assistant can interfere with Talview proctored assessments. The Gemini side panel, keyboard shortcut, and sparkle icon may trigger proctoring alerts from Alvy during your exam session.

In this article, you will learn how to unpin the Gemini button and disable Gemini features in Chrome before starting your assessments.

### Before you begin

* Make sure you are using Google Chrome on a Mac or Windows computer.
* These steps apply to Chrome version 141 and later.
* Complete these steps **before** launching your proctored assessment

### Step-by-step Guide

**Step 1: Unpin the Gemini button from the toolbar**

1. Look for the sparkle-shaped **Gemini** button in the top-right corner of Chrome, next to your tabs.
2. Right-click the **Gemini** button.
3. Select **Unpin Gemini**.

The icon disappears from the toolbar. However, the Gemini side panel can still be triggered using a keyboard shortcut (`Alt+G` on *Windows*, `Cmd+G` on *Mac*), so continue with the next steps to fully disable them.

**Step 2: Turn off Gemini in Chrome settings**

<img src="https://mintcdn.com/talview-f3acd66d/wIcngVHKu4kNFH-n/images/Turn-off-Gemini-in-Chrome-settings-(1)-(1).gif?s=726e5f500a718e3bd689e422d20d3fda" alt="Turn Off Gemini In Chrome Settings (1) (1)" title="Turn Off Gemini In Chrome Settings (1) (1)" style={{ width:"87%" }} width="1280" height="706" data-path="images/Turn-off-Gemini-in-Chrome-settings-(1)-(1).gif" />

1. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome.
2. Click **Settings**.
3. In the left sidebar, click **AI innovations**.
4. Click **Gemini in Chrome**.
5. Toggle off all the settings listed under this section.

This removes the side panel, stops Gemini from reading your current tab, disables the sparkle prompt on text selection, and disables the keyboard shortcut.

**Step 3: Turn off additional AI features**

<img src="https://mintcdn.com/talview-f3acd66d/wIcngVHKu4kNFH-n/images/Turn-off-additional-AI-features-in-Chrome-(1).gif?s=66038858f5a6da8d316288837010f060" alt="Turn Off Additional AI Features In Chrome (1)" width="1280" height="706" data-path="images/Turn-off-additional-AI-features-in-Chrome-(1).gif" />

While you are still in the **AI innovations** section:

1. Click **Help me write**.
2. Toggle off **Offer writing help**.

This prevents Chrome from automatically opening AI writing suggestions in text boxes across websites, which can trigger proctoring alerts during your assessment.

  **Additional tips**

  * After completing these steps, restart Chrome and verify that the Gemini button and side panel are no longer visible before starting your assessment.
  * These settings only affect Gemini inside Chrome. They do not change Gemini features in Gmail, Google Search, or other Google services.
  * If you do not see the **AI innovations** option in your Chrome settings, your version of Chrome may not have Gemini enabled yet, and no action is needed.
  * Using Chrome in **Incognito mode** also prevents Gemini from activating during a session, but disabling via settings is the recommended approach for a proctored assessment.
