# Why is the QR code not scanning?

During attendee onboarding, you may need to scan a QR code displayed on your **laptop or desktop** (primary device), to connect your **mobile phone** as a secondary camera.

This article helps attendees resolve QR code scanning issues when setting up their secondary device.

## 🔎 Troubleshooting Common Issues

| What might be wrong                          | How to fix it                                                                             |

| Mobile camera lens is dirty or smudged       | Clean the camera lens using a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust or fingerprints.       |
| Primary device screen brightness is too low  | Increase the brightness on your laptop or desktop so the QR code is clearly visible.      |
| Poor lighting in your environment            | Ensure the room is well lit so your mobile camera can capture the QR code clearly.        |
| QR scanning is disabled in the camera app    | Open your phone’s camera settings and enable the QR code scanning option.                 |
| Mobile camera is not focusing                | Hold your phone steady about 6–8 inches from the screen and allow it to auto-focus.       |
| Another app is using the mobile camera       | Close background apps that may be accessing the camera (for example, video calling apps). |
| QR code is blurred or obstructed             | Make sure the QR code is fully visible, unobstructed, and the screen is not damaged.      |
| Device does not support built-in QR scanning | Install a trusted third-party QR code scanner app from your app store.                    |

  * Use landscape mode when positioning your phone after scanning to provide a wider viewing angle for the secondary camera feed.
  * If the issue continues after troubleshooting, try switching to a different mobile device and attempt the QR code scan again to determine if the problem is device specific.
