# Why can't I add or edit fields in the Form Editor?

If fields aren't inserting, the “**/”** menu isn't appearing, or the Form Editor seems frozen while you're building a form in Talview, it's usually caused by a browser issue or a session-related problem. In this article, you'll find the most common causes and how to get the editor working again.

#### 🔎 Troubleshooting common issues

| **What Might Be Wrong** | **How to Fix It** |

| The “**/”** command menu isn't appearing when you type on the canvas. | Click directly on the canvas to make sure it's in focus, then type “**/”**.
If it still doesn't appear, refresh the page with `Ctrl + Shift + R` (Windows) or `Command + Shift + R` (Mac). |
| A field was selected from the block picker but didn't insert on the canvas. | Refresh the page and try again.
Make sure you're clicking on an empty area of the canvas before selecting a field from the block picker. |
| The editor appears frozen and no clicks or edits are registering. | Your browser tab may have become unresponsive. Refresh the page, or close and reopen the tab.
If the issue continues, close other heavy tabs or applications to free up memory. |
| Your changes aren't being saved, or fields revert after adding them. | This could be a network issue.
Check your internet connection and refresh the page. Your previously auto-saved content should still be intact. |
| Your browser session has expired or timed out. | Log out and log back in, then reopen the form from the Forms list. |
| A browser extension is interfering with the editor. | Try opening the Form Editor in an incognito or private browsing window.
If the editor works there, disable extensions one by one to identify the conflict. |

  **Additional Tips**

  * Chrome, Edge, and Firefox are the recommended browsers for the Form Editor. If you're using a different browser, try switching.
  * Clear your browser cache if the editor continues to behave unexpectedly after trying the steps above.
  * Your form content is auto saved, so refreshing or reopening the form won't cause you to lose your work.
  * If the issue persists across browsers and devices, contact your administrator for further assistance.
