# How to attempt a proctored canvas classic quiz

> Once the proctored quiz has been configured and made available, test takers can follow these steps to attempt the quiz.

**1. Accessing the quiz**

* Log into Canvas LMS.
* Go to the course where the proctored quiz is available.
* From the quiz list, select the proctored quiz you need to attempt.
  * Click on the quiz name to see the quiz description and instructions.

**2. Live proctored quiz requirement**

* If the quiz is live proctored, a side panel will open with a message informing you that you need to book a slot before starting the quiz.
* Click on the **Manage Booking** button. This will load a calendar in the same side panel where you can view available dates and times.
* Select a date and time slot that works for you and click **Confirm**.
* You will see an acknowledgement message confirming your booking.
* After booking, click the close icon at the top right to return to the quiz description page.

  You can only start the quiz 30 minutes before your scheduled time.

**3. Starting the quiz**

* The quiz is password-protected, and the password will be injected automatically. Simply click on the **Start Quiz** button.

  If the Proview browser extension has not been installed, an error message will appear, containing instructions and a link to install the extension.

  * Once installed, acknowledge the web page’s prompt and refresh the screen.
  * The code will then get injected to access the quiz.

* **Proctoring Pre-Flight Checks**: An iframe will load, and the proctoring pre-flight checks will begin.
* Once you successfully pass all pre-flight checks, the quiz questions will appear, and proctoring will begin in the background.

**4. Completing the quiz**

* Attempt all of the quiz questions and then click on **Submit Quiz.**
* Click on the **Stop Proctoring** button at the top right of the screen.
  * A confirmation message will pop up, click **OK**. Ensure you have attempted all the questions before confirming to end the proctoring.
* Optionally, provide feedback on the proctoring experience.
* After stopping proctoring, you will be redirected back to the Canvas LMS home page.
